3D CT Scan

3D Digital Imaging – GX CB-500

Why are 3D Digital Images Useful?

3D x-rays contain information that is used to accurately plan for treatment before procedures begin.  Your anatomy can be seen in three dimensions and can be enlarged, rotated, and divided in any direction, revealing potential problem areas during the treatment plan process. Better planning allows for more predictable treatment results in procedure such as implant placement, oral surgery, orthodontics, Temporomandibular Joint analysis and more.

Implants: Cross-sections, not possible with standard dental x-rays, allow us to accurately measure the bone to select the best implant for the site.

Oral Surgery:  Knowing the exact location of the teeth in relation to other dental structures, such as nerves and sinuses allows for the safest tooth removal procedure.

TMJ: Using a 3D scan, we can view joints and adjacent structures from every angle, allowing better planning for the treatment of jaw and facial pain.

Are 3D Images Safe?

Understanding that many patients are concerned with radiation exposure, we have chosen a system with the lowest radiation output.

This system uses at least 10 times less radiation than traditional medical CT scans.  The system’s standard scan is slightly less than the equivalent of 4 standard bitewing xrays.

How Are 3D Images Acquired?

Taking a 3D image is a simple process.  You will be seated in the unit and asked to place your chin on a chin rest.  After a few quick positioning adjustments, the scan will begin.  The gantry, the part of the unit that takes the xray, will rotate around your head.

The scan is painless and will last around 9 seconds.  Within 20 seconds the images are on the computer and ready for immediate diagnosis.  3D images will allow you to truly visualize and better understand your treatment options.
